How to give free shipping to VIP or wholesale customers on Shopify
Short answer: Make every shipping rate free for logged-in customers with a VIP tag, without a discount code. In Checkpost, choose “Free shipping for VIP customers” from Templates, adjust the values, test it, then save and enable the rule.
The problem
Loyalty and wholesale programmes often promise free shipping. Discount codes get shared or forgotten, and Shopify's customer-segment discounts don't decide which rates are free.
How to set it up
- Install Checkpost from the Shopify App Store.
- Open Templates and choose Free shipping for VIP customers.
- Set the customer tag. Add rate names to limit it to cheaper services.
- Use Try this rule to test a sample cart, then click Save rule.
The rule
Free shipping on every delivery method when all of these conditions is true:
- Customer has any of tags vip
Shoppers see no message: the methods are changed before checkout shows them.

| Test cart | Expected outcome |
|---|---|
| Logged-in VIP | Free shipping on every delivery method |
| Guest shopper | Methods unchanged by this rule |
Where this rule works
This changes existing delivery options; it does not create rates, change their prices or configure pickup. Address conditions are evaluated for each delivery group's own address. Product-tag conditions inspect the whole cart. Verify that an eligible delivery option remains.
Tips
- Customers need to be logged in for their tags to count. Guests don't qualify.
- Add rate names if only some services should be free, for example Standard and Local delivery.
- Tag customers in bulk from Customers → Bulk edit, or with Shopify Flow.
FAQ
Can VIPs still use a free shipping code?
Shopify applies one shipping discount per rate and picks the better one, so shoppers never pay less than zero.
