How to make the company field required for wholesale customers on Shopify
Short answer: Require a company name in the shipping address when a wholesale customer checks out, keeping invoices and deliveries accurate. In Checkpost, choose “Require company name for wholesale” from Templates, adjust the values, test it, then save and enable the rule.
The problem
Wholesale deliveries to a business without its company name on the label get misrouted or refused, and invoices without a company name cause accounting headaches.
How to set it up
- Install Checkpost from the Shopify App Store.
- Open Templates and choose Require company name for wholesale.
- Set your wholesale customer tag.
- Use Try this rule to test a sample cart, then click Save rule.
The rule
Checkout is blocked when all of these conditions are true:
- Customer has any of tags wholesale
- Company is empty
Shoppers see: “Please add your company name to the shipping address.” at the company field, once they reach checkout.

}Where this rule works
These are cart and checkout validations, including supported accelerated checkouts. They are current-cart policies; they do not track previous purchases of a SKU. Shopify excludes POS, recurring subscription orders and native pre-order/Try Before You Buy flows from this API. See Shopify's validation compatibility.
Tips
- The check runs only at checkout, once an address exists.
- You can require the phone number for wholesale buyers the same way.
