How to hide air shipping rates for hazmat products on Shopify

Short answer: Hide rates named Air, Express or Overnight when the cart contains hazmat-tagged products, while retaining your configured ground rates. In Checkpost, choose “Ground shipping only for hazmat-tagged carts” from Templates, adjust the values, test it, then save and enable the rule.

The problem

A region-wide hazmat block may be too broad when ground service is available. This rule removes named air services from carts containing products the merchant has classified as hazmat.

How to set it up

1. Install Checkpost from the Shopify App Store.
2. Open Templates and choose Ground shipping only for hazmat-tagged carts.
3. Review your actual carrier services and list every air service to hide. Tags and rate names are merchant-managed.
4. Use Try this rule to test a sample cart, then click Save rule.

Hide delivery methods containing "Air" or "Express" or "Overnight" when all of these conditions is true:

Shoppers see no message: the methods are changed before checkout shows them.

Where this rule works

This changes existing delivery options; it does not create rates, change their prices or configure pickup. Address conditions are evaluated for each delivery group's own address. Product-tag conditions inspect the whole cart. Verify that an eligible delivery option remains.

Tips

• Replace Air, Express and Overnight with the actual rate names requiring exclusion; names alone do not prove a service uses air.
• Verify that a valid ground option remains. Hiding all offered methods can leave a shopper unable to proceed.
• The tag policy is cart-wide, so every delivery group is affected when any item is hazmat. It does not map an individual item to a shipment or certify carrier compliance.

Will Ground remain available?

Yes if its name does not contain a configured hidden name and it is offered by Shopify. Checkpost does not create a ground rate.

Does Checkpost classify dangerous goods?

No. You maintain the hazmat tags and eligible carrier-service names using your carrier's requirements.
