How to hide express shipping for bulky products on Shopify

Short answer: Hide express and overnight shipping when the cart contains products tagged oversized. In Checkpost, choose “Hide express for oversized items” from Templates, adjust the values, test it, then save and enable the rule.

The problem

Bulky items often can't travel on express or overnight services, or cost far more than the express rate charges. Offering those rates for oversized items means refunds or eaten costs.

How to set it up

1. Install Checkpost from the Shopify App Store.
2. Open Templates and choose Hide express for oversized items.
3. Tag bulky products "oversized" and list your express rate names.
4. Use Try this rule to test a sample cart, then click Save rule.

Hide delivery methods containing "Express" or "Overnight" when all of these conditions is true:

Shoppers see no message: the methods are changed before checkout shows them.

Where this rule works

This changes existing delivery options; it does not create rates, change their prices or configure pickup. Address conditions are evaluated for each delivery group's own address. Product-tag conditions inspect the whole cart. Verify that an eligible delivery option remains.

Tips

• Tag bulky products "oversized" (or change the tag in the rule).
• List every express rate name your checkout shows; "contains" matching covers carrier variants like "UPS Express Saver".

Can you do this without an app?

Shopify shipping profiles can give products their own rates, but they can't remove a rate from the whole cart when one bulky item is in it.
